Son of the late Mr. David Morrison, The Gardens, Leckmelm.

 

Enlisted at Fort George Jan. 1904
Upon transfer to Reserve he joined the Edinburgh Police Force 1908
Mobilized at Fort George 5th Aug. 1914.
Posted to 2nd Battalion -
Proceeded to France 22nd Aug. 1914.
Wounded in the Retreat from Mons 29th Aug. 1914.
Returned to France 12th Dec. 1914.
Posted to 1st Battalion -
Killed in action at Neuve Chapelle 10th Mar. 1915.

 

Had two brothers serving –

  • Cpl. Alexander Morrison. Fought in the battles of Atbara and Omdurman, when only fifteen years of age.
    Was through the S. African War.
  • Enlisted in the 90th Winipeg Rifles Sept. 1914.
    Proceeded to France April. 1915.
    Severely Wounded Nov. 1917.

     

  • Lieut William Morrison, R.N.R.
  • Enlisted Hong Kong Contingent Sept. 1914.
    Received Commission in R.N.R. -
    Navigator, H.M.S. Marigold -
    Command of Mine Sweeping Flotilla -
    Received the D.S.C., and was twice mentioned in Dispatches -

 

“These men the fierce invader’s, onset broke,

Else had our homes gone up in fire and smoke;

Their hearts’ desire to leave us liberty

In the front ranks to fight – if need be – die.”

Official records state his age as being 27 (not 30 as stated above).

On his grave in Laventine there is the following inscription: "In Fond Remembrance."

 

The official record also states: Husband of Elizabeth Campbell Morrison, of 5, Westfield Rd., Edinburgh.
